TRAINING FOR HORSES
360 Horsemanship offers training for horses that have been started under saddle and actively ridden.
I start every horse from the ground up regardless of how much training they’ve had. We spend the first week working on ground skills that teach the horse to yield to pressure in their hindquarters, yield their shoulders, back up with rhythmic pressure and steady pressure and move their feet north, south, east, and west.
After a horse has demonstrated an ability and/or willingness to take on the essential groundwork exercises, we move to In the saddle techniques.
I work on the 5 points of control with all horses in training (poll, neck, shoulders, barrel, and hindquarters), moving off leg pressure, keeping light hands, and teaching horses that the reins are a communication tool, not a means of control.
Cattle are introduced early in a large 120’ round pen. When introducing a new horse to cattle, my main goal is to keep the horse calm and comfortable. A nervous horse doesn’t learn a lot, so I give them something else to think about by moving their feet. But as they become calm and comfortable around cattle, I work with them to create a supple, light response to cues both laterally and horizontally.
Next, I work to build cow interest, a desire in your horse to watch a cow move and move with them. We’ll then work a single cow by itself before finally working a herd.
